Haji Lane - Singapore | Part I

A little bit indie. A hidden gem of sorts. And a whole lot of vintage and creativity - Haji Lane.

Catching the MRT to Bugis, followed by a super short walk (~2 minutes) and you are transported into an alley way from a different time in history all together. Located in what is colloquially known as "Little Malaysia", Haji Lane historically was used as housing in the 1960's & 70's by Malay families, it currently houses stores and cafes with unique shop displays and a vintage aesthetic.

I think what was the most incredible thing to see was the fact that the houses had been well preserved, and kept as close to their original state as possible. From the creaking of floor boards when climbing up the narrow stairs to the miniature pop-up stores and the view of the city through windows that would have required a little more than just elbow grease to open. Everything screamed nostalgia, and the wondering of what life was like for those that resided there in the 60's and 70's.
